St Georges Road, Toorak

Overview

One of Melbourne’s finest homes, Saint Georges in Toorak is an incredible reproduction of French Provincial and Baroque architecture, the latter most famously exampled in Louis XIV’s famous Château de Versailles.

Renowned architect, Nicholas Day, drew on inspiration from Louis Le Vau to capture the essence of this opulent style, characterised by its large curved forms, luxurious motifs and complicated shapes.

From the antique white walls and solid Gesso Italiano plaster render, each finish is perfectly complemented by hardware handpicked by the client. Elegant drapery hangs throughout the interior, while gold leaf trimmings line the grand marble staircase. Colonale door handles and Espanigiolette bolts were manufactured in Italy to exacting specifications, rounding out this sumptuous vision.

A remarkable build using only the finest of available materials, Saint Georges exists as a delightful illustration of exacting and unique detail.
